The Problem Statement
Parts of Kenya are hit by recurring droughts and floods. Traditional disaster response waits for a crisis to occur before support is mobilised. This delays support and raises costs in the affected areas. Acting only after a hazard has struck leaves communities waiting for help, and it leaves little room to agree in advance who will do what, when, and with which funds. The Society needed a way to act before a disaster occurs, using forecasts and a shared, pre-agreed plan, instead of reacting once the crisis has already arrived.
