01The Challenge

The Problem Statement

Fundraising supports the work Kenya Red Cross Society carries out for communities. Before the Donations Platform, donation processes were less centralised and depended on manual coordination. Teams had to do extra follow-up and reconcile records by hand to keep track of contributions. Because donations were not handled in one place, campaigns were harder to organise, and it was harder to see and report on how they were progressing. The Society needed one system where campaigns could be created and managed, donations received and contributions tracked, with digital payment options for donors.

The Solution

The Donations Platform is a digital fundraising platform that helps Kenya Red Cross Society create and manage campaigns, receive donations and track contributions. It centralises campaign creation, donation options and digital payment collection in one channel for teams and donors. For donors, the platform is a public website where they can: Browse the Society’s campaigns, such as seasonal campaigns and thematic drives. Open a campaign to see what it aims to achieve, how much has been raised against its goal, and a progress bar showing how far it has come. Give through the Donate button using the digital payment options the platform supports. Find more about the Society’s work through the site’s Projects, Our Impact, Get Involved and FAQ pages, and manage their details through an Account menu. For Kenya Red Cross teams, the same platform is where campaigns are set up and managed. Each campaign has a title, a short description of its purpose, a funding goal, and a campaign type. The Community Water Access seasonal campaign, for example, aims to install 5 solar-powered water pumping systems. The Forestation thematic drive is described as aiming for a healthy environment for healthy citizens. Donations and contributions are recorded in the same system.

Impact

The platform made fundraising more accessible for donors. They now have one place to see campaigns and give through digital payment options. It also improved the visibility, organisation and reporting of campaigns for Kenya Red Cross teams. With campaign creation, donation options and payment collection in one system, there is less need for manual coordination and for follow-up and reconciliation of records.
